Everyone at this company was extremely helpful and friendly. The work was challenging and interesting but I never felt too overwhelmed. I knew I had plenty of resources to help me if I got stuck on a project or assignment. After some preliminary training, I was given real projects to work on and collaborate with the rest of the mechanical team, as well as employees outside the team. I was trusted with real company work and received a very valuable work experience. I worked on design (CAD), analysis (FEA, CFD), and testing on products primarily, which gave a comprehensive overview of all work done by the mechanical team at Regal.
What I wish was different
Advice
Be ready to get fully engaged and don't just stand in the background. They want you to be proactive and enthusiastic about the work. Don't be afraid to step up and ask questions. It doesn't matter if you know everything about engineering going into the co-op as long as you show initiative to learn and grow.

Strategic Operations Intern
June - August 2021 • Milwaukee, WI
What I liked
The people I worked with extremely friendly. I thought the work was interesting because it had been in a completely different department than my previous experiences; thus I was able to gain several new skills that I believed helped launch me in the next step of my career. The support I received from my manager as well as all other associates was tremendous. Everyone made sure I felt part of the team and wanted the best for me.
What I wish was different
I was only assigned one project so sometimes days were very slow. For me, I like to have 2-3 projects going on at the same time in the event I do get stuck on a particular problem, I can go to a different project to jog my mind and maybe gain new insights for the previous project
Advice
Be transparent with your mentor and colleagues. As an intern, you're not expected to be perfect so it's better to show yourself as you are and from there, everyone's willing to teach you what you need to know. Learn as much as you can about the company, your role(s), and some of the other business functions that you might work with.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
June - August 2019 • Taylors, SC
What I liked
I enjoyed Rexnord in Taylors being a small firm with a specific set of products. Because of the size of the location, I got to engage in a lot of experiences both on my own and in conjunction with other engineers or even doing jobs specifically for management. Additionally, I was exposed to numerous aspects or industry in general as well as manufacturing as a discipline of engineering.
What I wish was different
I would have liked to have more of an opportunity to participate in more design work. However, I was involved extensively in CAD work and reports that were used.
Advice
The real world is much more exciting than the classroom which sometimes grows monotonous. If one gets the opportunity to intern or co-op, do it. It will give you significant insight into your field and strongly effect your career direction towards excitement or realizing a need for adjustment. All in all, get into industry and see what's making the world go 'round.
