Responsibilities/Duties:

Pay starts at $47,594 and varies commensurate with experience.

  • Use computerized analytical tools to create charts, timelines, and link diagrams for the purpose of demonstrating analytical findings, including target relationships, time sequence of events, and criminal hierarchies. 
  • Prepare written reports to document investigative activities and summarize findings. 
  • Assist law enforcement in the analytical exploitation of notes, files, records, or other documents and information that may come into possession of law enforcement officers in the course of criminal investigations. 
  • Prepare affidavits in support of subpoenas to obtain business and financial documents for further analysis; and conduct such analysis, including preparation of spreadsheets and court exhibits. 
  • Analyze telephone voice and data records and other electronic communication in support of criminal investigations. 
  • Investigate backgrounds of suspects and witnesses/victims in order to obtain criminal histories. 
  • Coordinate with supervising investigators and attorneys on status and scope of ongoing and prospective investigations. 
  • Under the guidance of an investigator or prosecutor, prepare criminal investigations for presentation in state and federal court proceedings. 
  • Testify in court proceedings at state and federal level. 
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies with complex criminal investigations. 
  • Serve as liaison to other law enforcement agencies, including the US Attorney’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice in matters requiring intelligence-sharing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze records, including business and financial documents using commercial and specialized computer software and databases, to detect criminal conduct and efforts to conceal criminal conduct. 
  • Ability to conduct data mining and analyze databases and prepare spreadsheets and other demonstrative media in order to make presentations to investigative and legal staff and to testify in court proceedings. 
  • Ability to solve complex analytical problems and assimilate large amounts of data rapidly and effectively into useful packets of actionable intelligence. Ability to effectively communicate through accurate, grammatically correct oral and written reports. Ability to draft affidavits in support of subpoenas.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with members of other government agencies, including but not limited to federal, state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies, federal and state prosecutors, and other federal, state, county, and municipal governmental agencies.
  • Ability to maintain secrecy and  discretion in matters under investigation. Ability to apply law enforcement investigative techniques to follow up on leads via data exploitation and to suggest potential avenues for continued law enforcement effort.
  • Ability to use computer software including Word, Excel, and data mining using commercial or military search software such as Accurint or its equivalent. Working knowledge of i2 Analyst Notebook is highly desirable.
  •  Working knowledge of the internet, plotting, mapping, and law enforcement query software (Wisconsin T.I.M.E. system or equivalent) is highly desirable.
