Governmental Affairs Manager

Management Association, on behalf of American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), is accepting resumes for a Governmental Affairs Manager.  This position will play an important role in advancing ADHA’s state legislative and education and professional advocacy goals. The manager will have high-visibility with ADHA state legislative liaisons, serving as a central resource and support mechanism for their efforts.  Responsibilities will include policy analysis, legislative strategy and support and advocacy development.  The ideal candidate is proactive, a quick learner, able to work independently and possess strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide ongoing liaison and resource support services to members by serving as a liaison with members on political activities, legislative initiatives, strategy and planning for legislation, regulatory change and related health care concerns.
  • Monitor, research and analyze state legislative and regulatory trends that impact dental hygiene. Track pending legislation and mitigate as needed.
  • Work closely with director of governmental affairs in the development and analysis of information for advocacy documents, presentations, testimony, etc.
  • Work with ADHA state leaders to advance state policy initiatives that complement ADHA strategic plan.
  • Compile answers to inquiries from ADHA state associations, the media, dental hygienists, and others.
  • Advance the dental hygiene profession with advocacy materials such as issue summaries, briefs, advocacy tools, testimony, and development of strategy and preparation of state lobby days.
  • Draft updates for association publications.
  • Assist in planning and development of legislative workshop presentation and activities related to ADHA annual meeting, including attendance.
  • Advise division director of governmental issues and materials pertinent to the division and ADHA.·  
  • Ensure that ADHA and Member’s Only Website and Public site content related to advocacy is organized and updated to meet the needs of members, state and local officers and specialty groups as determined.
  • Manage Political Action Committee - HYPAC.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three to five years legislative experience at the state or federal level or 3-5 years combined experience with association or other governmental affairs responsibility.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and research skills.
  • Experience working with PACs.   
  • Knowledge and experience of the legislative process.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities, possess robust listening skills and diplomacy with the ability to work inter-divisionally and show initiative.
